Chris earned his LL.B. from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Law in 1997 and was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1998. He has been a registered Canadian Trademark Agent since 2002. Chris joined Leland Kimpinski LLP in 2019 after spending the better part of the past two decades as a business and technology law partner in the Saskatoon office of a large regional law firm. Prior to law school, Chris spent over 10 years working in materials management and production planning for one of Canada's largest international high-tech manufacturing companies.
Since 2011 Chris has been recognized annually by Best Lawyers for his expertise in Intellectual Property Law and Information Technology Law.
Chris has been active in professional development activities for lawyers and other professionals, industry associations and educational institutions. Notable among his presentations are “Drafting an IP License Agreement”, "Intellectual Property Considerations in Construction and Industrial Projects", "Industry Standard Agreements", "The New 2008 CCDC 2 Stipulated Price Contract", "Patents, Trademarks and Technology Transfer", "Canadian Copyright Law", and "Corporate Governance Best Practices for Non-Profit Boards".
Chris is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. & Canada, since 2010) and an Associate Member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (since 2006).
Chris served three elected terms as a Director of the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce (2013 - 2019), sitting on the Audit & Finance, Nominations and Human Resources committees during his tenure. Chris served as Chair of the Board of SaskFilm and Video Development Corporation (2011 - 2014) after joining the SaskFilm Board in 2010. Chris was a Director of Perspehone Theatre from 2000-2004, serving as Vice-President in 2003-2004. Chris has coached youth soccer for a number of years in the Aurora zone and was a Director of Aurora Soccer Club Inc. from 2011-2016. He has also volunteered on the Zone Advisory Committee for Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc.
